Multi-DF     Sunday  Aug 9th 2015

Blakes Wood, Danbury.

Organiser  Roy E  G4JAC

11 Txs      Start  1:30   End  16:00

Pub  The Bell, Danbury.

The map on the left is included so that the size of the site can be appreciated - note the 1 Km squares, then refer to the enlarged map below.

My original intention was to utilise the full  spread of footpaths, delivering the Txs by car to the extremities, however, in view of the 'warmth' of the day I decided to confine myself to the central area.

Txs  J, I, Y, Z, F, G, R & S being deposited in one clockwise circuit.

A & B were then taken to their location.  The Danbury area has a large and active amateur population and I feared that interference could be a problem so opted for the full 30m aerial at Station A to warn of our presence on 1960 KHz.

Colin F had suggested an 11th Tx to keep the 'hot shots' entertained and perhaps try out new ideas.  This was mentioned in the introductory notes but an ironic comment from me re new ideas meant 'X' came as surprise to some. Would very short transmissions make it  impossible?

There are a lot of paths shown but there were many more!   The green dots have been added by me to show some that were important to the event. As you can see all the greens and yellows were within 30m of a path and all had a bramble free entry if you took the time to look for it.  Off the paths the going was tough!

The welcome board - if competitors had studied it closely the arrows would have helped, all passing close to Txs leaving only the final rush for B & A in the middle.

Ahhhh!

Triffid J also looked quite beautiful once you had spotted it!

Open paths took you close to all Txs ...

... of course the reds were a little harder to spot. Yes 'R'  is there if  you look
 closely .... a  'rose/triffid' amongst the thorns!

Above - The path running south of Maxi A, a long aerial and power lines provided good radiation and just a little directional confusion!
Left  - First time competitors Natalie and Howard, still ready for action when others had wilted.

Colin, inventor of Station X, demonstrates what to do when you get 40 points at it.
Sadly he didn't get the other 10 Txs so it didn't count, altogether now ...........!

  Rosie has really cool knees.
Above, only Bob is left standing!           Below some competitors revive after application of water.

Reminder there are no ties in Multi-DF, in the event that points are equal the first person to find  Maxi A takes the higher place.

Hero Points
Win  50,  Second  10,  Third 3.

Hero points count towards the Hero Trophy awarded to the person who is brave enough to compete with the biggest handicap.

Steve was the first 'Hero' back in 2014, now he is 'the man' again after some serious DFing.

He is running the next event, so can Tim sneak it back with a third place? Who will hold that coveted trophy all winter .... oooh the suspense?!

Steve was the Multi-Star for the day ......

....... and got the 'After Ten' prize for finding Station X.

Steve would have also taken away the Hero trophy too if  'someone' wasn't too distracted by taking selfies and left it home.... drrrr!

Well done to Gary too, second despite that handicap and game for more.
Update:
Selfie man redeems himself
by presenting the Hero to Steve at the Echelford traditional event.   Note Brian May's watchful eye, talent spotting for a photographer, or concerned about the exposure?!

Next event September 13th  watch this space for detail.
