Tickets

The excitement of Multi-DF is enhanced by the use of tickets rather than times.  They provide a method by which the first competitor to find a transmitter can be given a big reward.  The scaling of these rewards gives competitors much to think about when planning their strategy, in particular it encourages them to look for stations on their own rather than hunting in a group. Individual hunting is also encouraged by issuing Jokers relating to different transmitters.

  • A competitor's score for a competition is the total of the points on the tickets he collects.
  • No times are recorded,  the winner may not be the first to finish! Several top scores may mean you can take it easy at the end.
  • Tickets collected at Minis and Micros have to be posted in named boxes at the Maxi(s) before the event ends. 
  • Joker tokens, drawn at the start, double your score at the station indicated on the token. The token is posted with the other tickets at the Maxi.
  • In the case of a tie the person with the highest Maxi score is placed in front.
  • A competitor may only take one ticket from each station (including the Maxi if it is visited several times).
  • Taking a ticket and giving it to another person is not allowed!
  • All types of transmitter (Maxi, Mini and Micro) use the same ticket values.

Each transmitter is identified by a single letter.

Each ticket shows the Tx letter and points score.

On arrival a competitor removes the cover (triffid) takes the highest value ticket  and replaces the triffid.  

Competitors should search for the tickets, not the actual transmitter which will be well hidden (to prevent theft) and located within 3 metres of the tickets.

It is a good idea to keep a note of which Txs you have found, people have been known to search for and find the same one twice!


At the Maxi a 'Post Box' is used to collect the tickets from all the stations.

On their first visit to the Maxi, competitors take the highest value ticket from under the Maxi's triffid and post it along with their Joker and any other tickets collected from Minis and Micros, into their named box. It is possible to make several visits to the Maxi to 'bank' tickets but a Maxi ticket is only taken on the first visit.

The Maxi marks the end of the event by transmitting a long sequence of dots referred to as the machine gun, then repeats the letters OT (out of time) until all competitors are accounted for. A recording where you will hear the last minute of transmission followed by the machine gun is here.

Only tickets posted before the start of the machine gun count! The operator is responsible for policing this and is expected to show no mercy!

Anyone collecting tickets but failing to get any posted before the machine gun will be ranked after all other competitors. This risk factor is one of the spices added in Multi-Tx DF!

Regulars and those who book early have a named box, numbered boxes are allocated by the starter if extra competitors turn up on the day. The boxes are coloured to help those who need reading glasses. The starter will tell you your colour.
