10 Txs and associated triffids provide the
amusement.

Throughout
the year I've been looking around Ipswich for another site without
success so I decided to reuse the site from 2023. I tried to plan out
the locations in advance to reduce the time spent on deployment day.
The weather a week in
advance was for some light rain. With this in
mind I planned to put 6 Txs in the dry scrubby bit to the east and 4 in
the tree covered area to the west.
As the weekend got nearer the
forecast changed to warm and sunny so I swapped around.
11
am Saturday
Roy met me in the car
park to hand over Txs and
Triffids.

No lack of ground cover

but Triffids can be
3D x 3m from Tx
|

so many places to hide!
|
Saturday 4:30 pm
All Txs and Triffids
deployed as below.

|
I arrived on Sunday
at 11am and
started listening for the Tx test cycle. ......
...... .......
Nothing!!!
Either my receiver was
not working ( I did test it Saturday but
clearly not properly) or there was a bulk Tx programming problem.
I walked back to the
car park to find Roy who said "Are you
serious?"
I think my face
said I
was.
I quickly borrowed one
of Roy's receivers and immediately heard some
morse, much relieved I went to the start and confirmed I could hear all
10 Txs twice before returning to Roy in the car park to switch on the
blocking and car park Txs.
After that all went well .......

Gary and Philip
amongst the ferns looking for F.
|

This way ....... or that way first?
|

Trendy trousers.
|

Does that smile say I've pinched several peoples' jokers? |
Above:
I managed to get some photos but mostly of Gary, Philip and Tim. I did
feel sorry for Roy who turned up at 2:55 as I was lying in wait near
the ghost. He seemed to get the wrong sense initially but was within 5
metres of the ghost as the clock turned 3:00.
Back at the car park I met Tim who had been mis-identified as an alien
by a dog walker. I presume this was due to the apparent scales on his
leg and not because they saw him eating live mice. (Google "V TV
series").
Thanks to all those who attended and especially Roy for all the prep
work he does in the weeks before to make these events possible.

Colin F was not having the best of days with a modified DF set. With
confidence knocked he decided to bank at his Joker H before looking for
G but then, on going back to H to collect it in, forgot to validate
G. When you are having a bad day ................

Some strategic play over several events has Philip back as Star of the
day, and once again within reach of the Hero for the next event.
|

2nd place but with an incredible raw score, has Gary done enough to get the Hero trophy back from Tim? See below to find out.

Over to Philip
Ravenswood Park 7th
September 2025
After a period of rain
and cold weather the heat was back by the time we reached this Ipswich
event. When the breeze eased off it got worse.

We started off by the
old gun fort built to protect the old Ipswich Airport. My bearing on G
(joker) seemed north of AB&C and lined up with a tall clump of
distant trees at the north end of Braziers Wood. Surprisingly KLM came
up in the complete opposite direction on a strip of land I did not
anticipate we would be going to.
I started by following
Gary down the track that ran alongside the noisy A14, but struggled to
keep up. Then made a right hand turn as soon as the end of the OOB was
reached and saw Gary going off into the woods on the left. Reached my
target area at the end of the wood by the houses. It then became clear
I had overshot by some distance and could only just hear G. Possibly I
had mixed up G with B on the same frequency.
Tracked back along the
parallel path further inside Braziers wood and looking for likely spots
noticed a bit of a track which I followed to find A, after Gary had
already been in. Felt like an age before I picked up the trail of my
joker still some distance away, but in reality it only took 9 minutes
to clock into G hidden in the clump of Hazel just down the slope behind
some fern. Missed the fact that H was really close by and went off
looking for F, back towards the start where I again followed Gary in.
I then retraced my
steps to find B back up the other side of A. Then struggled to get a
line to C alongside Ben at one time, before beating a path through the
heather and down the slope to another path by the pond and fishing
platform. Colin M then joined me and I led him in, but he just beat be
me to the triffid.
Decided then to leave
H until the end and head off back towards the start and the ghost which
was clearly in the same direction some distance away. Half way down
passed George going the other way.
|

|
Once the other side
of the car park there seemed only a single narrow path leading
alongside the road.
Managed then to spot a beaten track where I found K and similar to find
M, after crawling through the under growth a couple of minutes later.
Knew that I was getting close to the ghost when I spotted Chris lurking
in the grass taking photos of the hard pressed competitor and waiting
for the 3.00 pm time limit. It felt like an age, but again only then
took another seven minutes to find the ghost, this time ahead of Gary
who was just going in as I came out, with 15 minutes to spare. The
location of the ghost at the far end of the site was not what I
expected but is fair!
L then proved really difficult as the tracks around it were narrow and
winding, with thick brambles in-between. It took about 15 minutes to
pin down the right tree and fortunately again managed to get ahead of
Gary who had joined in the fray.
Stopped to pick up some water from the car park to help with another
long trek back to Braziers wood to locate the remaining H and lodge
points with joker whose location by then had completely gone from my
mind. It took a while to pin down H and on the way out I felt that I
had been there before, only to discover that G was only a few metres
away. Lodged points and prepared to switch off the TX.
Having heard no-one at nearby H, decided to trek through the fern to
make sure of the location and get it ready to shut down only to come
back to find Colin F at G, where we had a chat before he went off to H,
which turned out to be his joker.
|
A
very different event, on a great site with a lot of effort going into
the hiding of the TX by Chris. Not a lot of chat at the pub afterwards
as everyone seemed just as knackered as I did!
