10 Txs and associated triffids provide the amusement.

Nine teams turned out in good weather for the first multi DF event of 2026.  We were hoping some newbies would come along, and the event was planned to have relatively straightforward hides for Txs AFK for them to find.  As it happened, only hardened regulars were on the start sheet.

We walked a fair way to the start from the car park. This start location would give approximately equal distances to A F and K, over mostly flat land.

The dry ground did pose a threat of twisted ankles with ruts and hardened tussocks. High and low brambles made an additional hazard.

The directions to A F and K from the start would also spread competitors out well. Reds C, H and M were planned to be more difficult to find, with the ghost Tx set out on a limb to tempt chancers away from the other nine.

On setting up the day before, the monotony of hard ground gave way to a running stream and boggy area in the SE corner of the site, so I decided to plant B and C there to make it more interesting. Originally I had planned to set B and C up on the right hand side of the dividing road with access to a footpath East from the boggy area. With two trips back to the car to collect transmitters, it took 4 ½ hours to set everything up.

Just before 1.30 this happened : unfortunately one competitor wouldn’t line up properly :    Then  .....  .....  ....  it got even worse !
Roy thought the event would be a bit of a stroll
(get that cap straight, laddy !)

Chris had high hopes with his new receiver, and familiar circular aerial.

At 1.30 good signals were heard by all, and off everybody went.
Phil quickly cashed in on F on his way to joker H

George came in next, shortly after searching a different
clump of brambles.

Are the Triffids evolving?

Colin M was seen looking for B, in a swampy area near a stream : here he is seen standing virtually next to the Tx / triffid, but put off by the presence of a dead rabbit pointing to the right place, he went away into the wood. Here he found a black bag at the base of a tree. Suspecting it may be a dog poo bag, he left it alone. It turns out that the black bag contained Roy’s water bottle, neither poo nor a transmitter.

Roy found bog and brambles at C to contend with but
got there in the end.

Chris is heading for L from K.

George is on the final approach to L.

Why run when you can walk and admire the cowslips (or whatever) ?

Roy gets into F close to the finish time.

Phil is on his way to ivy covered H for the second time to validate
his haul.

Returning to his Joker, Colin F was out of time by one minute , hence no points for the Txs shown in red below. Oh the spice

No prizes were awarded in the pub as we forgot to bring any. So Gary, the overall winner, went away empty handed apart from the satisfaction of finding all 10 stations, causing a hero recount, and the promise of trophies and refreshments to come.

Well done too to Rosie for coming second, and overcoming her joker, C, with relative ease. Checking the lay lines before the start obviously paid off.

Thank you to all who came along, the event seemed to keep everyone happy. Hope the bramble scratches have healed up by now.
